Thank you for taking the time to read about the upcoming migration of your services from PowerPipe to Hover.

The migration of your services is happening so that we can provide a better experience to you, immediately and with continual improvements in the future. Hover, like PowerPipe, is owned and operated by Tucows Inc. While the PowerPipe platform hasn’t been improved for quite some time, the Hover platform is modern and actively being developed.  Both during and after the migration, you'll have access to a support team for your domains and mailboxes. This migration process will be seamless, with your products and account information brought over by Hover without your involvement.

Please review the frequently asked questions below so that you are familiar with how you will access your account with your domains and mailboxes after we complete the migration. We’re available via phone, email, or live chat if you have any questions that aren’t covered here.

Who is Hover?

Hover is owned and operated by Tucows Inc., which also owns PowerPipe, and other internet services companies.  Hover is a domain name registrar that provides domain names and email to customers like you, all over the world. Hover has been in business since 2008 and is based in Toronto, Canada.

Here's what will be staying the same:

  1. Account Information: Your account information will be transferred over seamlessly to Hover. Management of all of your account information and products (domains and mailboxes) will be moved to Hover.

  2. DNS: There won’t change any of your DNS settings, and you should not experience any downtime.

  3. Domain Expiry Dates: All expiry dates for your domain names will remain the same.

Here's what will be different:

  1. Control Panel: After the migration, your services will no longer be accessible through PowerPipe.  During the migration, Hover will send you your login information to manage your services using the Hover control panel. Any additional domains or mailboxes you wish to purchase can be purchased through Hover.

  2. Domain Pricing: Domain name pricing will vary based on the type of domain you bought.   Please see our domain pricing page for details. Volume discounts will automatically be applied based on the number of domain names you own.

  3. Free ID Protect (WHOIS Privacy): Hover provides Whois Privacy for free on all eligible domains. If your domain has ID Protect enabled at PowerPipe, we’ll continue to provide it after the migration to Hover. Your Whois information will be private throughout the migration.

  4. Improved Customer Support: You can expect improved customer service as a result of this migration.  Hover has friendly and knowledgeable support staff that will provide full support for all of your services. You can reach our team in the following ways:

  5. Payments: Your billing statements going forward will either show "HOVER" or “TUCOWS INC” as the merchant, depending on your payment method.

Here's what you need to do:

  1. On the day of the migration, Hover will email your account information including your Hover username.

  2. Reset your Hover password by visiting https://www.hover.com/signin and supplying the username Hover provided in the welcome email.

  3. Add your billing information.

  4. Browse through your new Hover account and let us know if you have any questions or if we can help in any way!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. Does this migration impact the expiration date of my domain name?

    No, the expiration date of your domain name will remain the same.

  2. Does this migration impact the expiration date of my mailbox?

    Yes. Hover synchronizes email expiry dates with domain expiry dates.  This means your mailbox expiry date may be affected in one of two ways

    In the event that your mailbox expires before your domain’s expiry date, Hover is going to extend the expiration date of your mailbox to match your domain’s expiry date for free. 

    In the event that your mailbox expires after your domain’s expiry date, Hover is going to reduce the time remaining on your mailbox to match your domain’s expiry date, and then apply a credit to your account that reflects this change.

  3. What are the new costs of my domain names? Your domain name pricing will vary based on the type of domain you bought. You will be placed into the appropriate volume discount tier automatically, based upon the number of domain names you have purchased.  Please see Hover’s domain pricing page for details.


  4. What are the new costs of my mailboxes? Hover will grandfather your mailbox pricing from PowerPipe as follows: 

    Hover will take the price that you are paying per year for mailboxes and divide by the number of mailboxes you are using.  That amount will be the price per mailbox per year that you will pay going forward. 

    For example, if you use two mailboxes and pay $12 per year, Hover will set a price of $6 per mailbox per year for your migrated mailboxes.

  5. Will I need to edit my DNS?

    No, your DNS will remain exactly the same. 

  6. What payment types does Hover accept?

    Hover accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and PayPal as well as Apple Pay.

  7. What name will I see on my billing information?

    Depending on your payment method, you will either see “Tucows, Inc.” or “Hover” on your bill.

  8. What happens if I try to log-in to my PowerPipe account?

    After the migration, you will be given a notice that you’ve been migrated to Hover.

  9. I don’t want to move. What can I do?

    We’re confident that you’ll find Hover to be an excellent domain and email provider, but if you don’t wish to move to Hover, then you can transfer your domain(s) to another registrar prior to your migration date. Additionally, if you don’t find Hover suitable after you have been migrated, you can easily transfer your domains to another provider at any time.
