How to Install WordPress Using the Plesk Control Panel

Solution

WordPress can be installed on our Linux Hosting Servers via two methods.

  • Using the Applications section in the Plesk Control Panel (May not be available on all Linux Servers)
  • Uploading the WordPress installation files via FTP

Installing Wordpress from Applications on Plesk.

To Install WordPress using Plesk, you must first ensure that Safe Mode is off.

To turn off Safe Mode:

  1. Log into the Plesk Control Panel
  2. Under Domains, select the domain name where you will install WordPress.
  3. Click on Web Hosting Settings.
  4. Locate PHP Module setting, and uncheck Safe Mode: On.
  5. Click OK.

To install Wordpress using the Applications section:

  1. In the Plesk Control Panel, under Domains, select the domain where you will install WordPress.
  2. Click Web Applications, and then click Install Web Applications.
  3. Locate the latest WordPress application in the list (Web, Blog, Wordpress vX.X.X.X).
  4. Click Install.
  5. Read and agree to the terms of service.
  6. Fill in the form to create your WordPress preferences:
    1. Select Document Root if you wish to install WordPress on the Root domain name.
    2. The Administrator's Preference is used when accessing the WordPress Control Panel. Make sure you write this down.
  7. Click Install.

Congratulations, you have just completed installing WordPress. You can manage your WordPress Site via "example.com/wp-admin", where example.com is your domain name.

Installing Wordpress by uploading installation files via FTP.

To Install WordPress using Plesk, you must first ensure that Safe Mode is off.

To turn off Safe Mode:

  1. Log into the Plesk Control Panel
  2. Under Domains, select the domain name where you will install WordPress.
  3. Click on Web Hosting Settings.
  4. Locate PHP Module setting, and uncheck Safe Mode: On.
  5. Click OK.

Create a database to link to your WordPress Installation:

  1. In the Plesk Control Panel, under Domains, select the domain where you will install WordPress.
  2. Click Database, and then click Add New Database. Enter a database name, and record this for your information [Make sure to include the prefix in front of the name you entered].
  3. Click OK.
  4. Click Add New Database User. Create a database username and password. Make sure you record this information as well.
  5. Click OK.

Once you have your WordPress installation files downloaded from http://www.wordpress.org, connect to the FTP to upload your WordPress files to the HTTPDOCS folder.

Once the files have been uploaded, follow the steps below to begin Installation:

  1. Via a browser, go to <your domain name>/wp-admin/install.php, for example: www.example.com/wp-admin/install.php
  2. Follow the installation process to create your configuration file. You will be asked for the following information:
    1. Database Name: The database name you created in step 2 when creating your WordPress database.
    2. Database User Name: The User name you created in Step 4 when creating your WordPress database.
    3. Database Password: The Password Created in Step when creating your WordPress database.
    4. Database Host: mysqldb2.ehost-services.com
    5. Prefix: Leave this as is unless you know that a different prefix is required. It should match the prefix information you entered when creating your WordPress database.
  3. Click Submit. You will then be instructed to create an Admin username and password. This will be used to access your Wordpress Admin Panel.
  4. Follow the steps to complete installation

Congratulations, you have just completed installing WordPress. You can manage your WordPress Site via "example.com/wp-admin", where example.com is your domain name.
