Transferring Domain Names that Already Have DNS Hosting

Article Number: KB 1020

Product: Transfers

Audience:eNom Reseller, eNom Central, Bulk Register

Problem

I have a domain that is currently DNS hosted and I am transferring the domain into my account. Will the DNS hosting cause an issue with the transfer?

Solution

No, the transfer will proceed as normal. If a domain name is using eNom's DNS Server, and is transferring the domain registration to the same account, then once the transfer is completed and the name is in our system, the hosted DNS records will take precedence over the any default DNS that would have been assigned to new domain names. This is called a DNS Hosted Transfer.

If the domain is using a third party DNS, then the domain name will remain pointed to that DNS Server.
