Important .EU Changes
We want to notify you about two important updates the .EU registry is making to their registration platform as well as the .EU domain lifecycle that will have an impact on you and your clients.
1. EURid will be Offline 2 Days for Maintenance
On September 15, 2014, EURid (the registry operator of .EU) is launching a new registration platform, and will be offline two days prior to this launch. While the registry is offline, DNS will continue to resolve, but any changes and transactions will be unavailable.
||September 12, 2014 (Friday) 3:00 PM Pacific Time
||September 14, 2014 (Sunday) 12:00 AM Pacific Time
Here’s what you should expect:
- New registrations will be queued and processed as soon as the new platform is live.
- Any changes (DNS, contact info, etc.), renewals and transfers will fail and will need to be resubmitted once the registry is back online on September 15, 2014.
2. .EU Domain Renewal/Expiry Changes
New Renewal/Expiry Lifecycle for .EU Domains (like .COM)
Starting September 15, 2014, new .EU domain name registrations will follow a different renewal/expiry lifecycle that is similar to a .COM. Here’s what will happen if your customer registers a new 1-year .EU domain name:
||September 16, 2014
||September 16, 2015
Existing .EU Domain Name Renewals
Currently, .EU domains expire at the end of the registration month, not the day they were registered. For example:
||January 10, 2014
||January 31, 2015
Moving forward, your client's existing .EU domain expiration dates will continue to keep the last day of their registration month.
